Cash Back Credit Cards

Get paid to use your card

Cash back credit cards are similar to reward cards, but instead of earning points or air miles, you get a cash refund check or a discount on your bill. However, unlike other types of reward cards, cash back cards generally offer customers greater flexibility. To find the best card for you, it will take a little bit of comparison research.

These cards usually charge higher interest rates than other types of credit cards and many of them come with an annual fee as well. If you don’t pay off your bill in full each month, a cash back card could actually cost you more in interest than the discount you’ll receive. However, if you pay your full balance off, the interest rate won’t affect you.

Cash back cards vary quite a bit in the amount of refund they will offer. You should evaluate and compare the system that each cash back card uses to reward its customers as some cards may offer a higher number of points or discount for each dollar spent. Some credit cards will also put a yearly limit on the amount of cash discount you can receive. For example, a cash back card that gives you one percent cash back on all purchases with no yearly limit may actually be a better deal than a card that pays you three percent cash back with a maximum yearly amount. Just make sure you do a little bit of math work before ordering your card.

There are various ways of receiving cash back payments such as statement credits, checks, gift cards and bank deposits. Some credit card companies will offer you a gift certificate that is worth more than your cash rebate. Many people find that receiving the credit automatically on their statements is the easiest way. This also means you get your discount every month instead of waiting for one check at the end of the year.

When using a cash back card that gives you an actual rebate check, it’s important to find out if you have to apply for the rebate or if you get it automatically. This is important as the credit card may have an expiry date on the cash rebate and if you don’t ask for it in time, you’ll lose your rebate.
